Fernando says City are looking to put the defeat to Tottenham behind them by returning to winning ways against Everton on Saturday.

The Brazilian midfielder has featured in all seven of City’s Premier League matches this season and is enjoying life under Pep Guardiola, but with Barcelona to come next week, he says the Blues can’t afford another slip-up against the Toffees.

“Training has been good and we are looking to responding to our loss at Tottenham,” said Fernando.

“We need to learn from that defeat and return to winning ways again so it’s vital we get back to playing the way we have been. We need to start much better than we did at White Hart Lane and we’re all keen to put that game behind us because we were a long way from our best.”

Standing in City’s way are fifth-placed Everton who also lost their first game of the season a fortnight ago following a 1-0 defeat at Bournemouth - prior to that they’d beaten West Brom and Sunderland on the road.

“It’s always a difficult game against Everton but our goal is always the same – to try and win the game and play good football,” said Fernando.

“We are back together now after the international break and looking forward to resuming Premier League matches.

“They’ve started well and have looked really good. They are just four points behind us which is an indication of how good a job Ronald Koeman has done. They have made one or two signings and they have a strong squad so we know they’ll be a threat.”
