Fernandinho believes Manchester City should have returned to Manchester with maximum points from their Premier League clash at Arsenal.

The Blues led twice at the Emirates Stadium, through Leroy Sane and Sergio Aguero, but were pegged back by efforts from Theo Walcott and Mustafi.

Pep Guardiola’s men had been looking to close the gap on league leaders Chelsea, who they face on Wednesday night, and Fernandinho admitted the result felt like a defeat.

“From the beginning, we showed we came here to win the game and tried to do that on the pitch,” he reflected.

Leroy Sane scores

EARLY RISER: Leroy Sane struck to give City a fifth minute lead

“Unfortunately, we conceded the goal in the second half and it finished in a draw.

“We tried to push on and make some high pressing but they didn’t play and they started to play long balls.

“We lost some second balls and I think that makes it difficult for us. We defended more than usual at the back in front of our box. That was the reason they hit back.

Aguero goal

SECONDS OUT: Sergio Aguero was a on target to put City back in front

“We tried from the beginning of the game and unfortunately, we could not score more goals. In fact, we conceded goals and that’s it.”

Asked whether the draw ended City’s title chances, the Brazilian responded: “The Premier League is still open.

“We have a tough game against Chelsea away.

“To be close to them, we have to win that game and we will see what will happen at the end of the season.”
