After three league games without a win, City got back in the groove with a fine 3-1 win over Hull City at the Etihad with Sterling delivering a man of the match display.
With Liverpool also winning, City stayed in fourth place making their victory even more crucial – especially as Manchester United and Arsenal, who are also vying for the top four, don’t play until later this weekend.
But rather than worry about the opposition, Sterling said City’s focus was solely trained on their own form and ensuring their finish the campaign with a flourish.
“We needed a win today, we have dropped too many points and it was back to winning ways,” said Sterling.
“We don’t worry about other teams’ results, it’s step by step for the team and we just need to focus on our results.”
“We need to put our head down and focus on ourselves and that’s what we did this afternoon.”
The only blemish on a fine all-round display was the fact the Blues conceded a late consolation goal – a fact that rankled with Sterling and his colleagues.
“With five minutes to go we need to see the game out and don’t concede,” sterling added.
“We need to get that right. It was sloppy and we have to fix that.”
