City will begin the new campaign with a three-man central defence and wing-backs as so successfully trialled during pre-season.

Ederson, Danilo and Kyle Walker all make their debuts with Bernardo Silva on the bench with Fernandinho getting the nod as holding midfielder ahead of Yaya Toure.

Benjamin Mendy and Ilkay Gundogan are unavailable for selection.

How we line up:

Ederson, Walker, Kompany (c), Otamendi, Stones, Danilo, Fernandinho, De Bruyne, D Silva, G Jesus, Aguero

Subs: Bravo, Bernardo, Sterling, Sane, Mangala, Foden, Yaya Toure

AGUERO: Leading the line

Tactics:

The only formation that seems to fit the team selected is a 3-5-2.

Walker and Danilo are likely to be given plenty of freedom to raid the flanks with Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva free to roam and create behind the strikers.

It’s a team full of attacking potential with a bench that contains plenty of creativity, experience and trickery.

Yaya’s milestone...?

Yaya Toure will make his 300th City appearance this afternoon if he comes off the bench against Brighton, almost seven years to the day he made his debut against Spurs in 2010.

The Ivorian is on 299 appearances - just one shy of the 300 club that currently counts Vincent Kompany and David Silva as members.

Stats and facts:

City won 12 times on the road last season - a new Club record in the Premier League era.

If Sergio Aguero scores today he will have found the net against 30 of 31 opponents in the top flight with the only strike coming against Bolton Wanderers - it would also means he’s scored in his last seven games on the road.
