“I am very happy I got into the team so quickly. This means a lot, to play in front of our fans,” said Gabriel Jesus after his brace secured a dramatic victory for City over Swansea.

That makes it three starts, three goals and two assists in English football for the youngster and he wasn’t just City’s Man of the Match for the second successive game, but also their match winner as his late, late strike rescued a vital three points for the Blues. 

The immediate impact Gabriel Jesus has made since he arrived in England was impressive enough prior to Sunday’s game but he’s becoming the gift that keeps on giving and a huge factor in his team’s improved form of late.

The Brazilian played his third full 90 minutes in just over a week and, according to SAP, had 53 touches of the ball against the Swans. He looked hungry and eager to get into the box throughout the match but also linked up well with the players around him, making 37 passes and creating three chances. 

But the most important statistic of all is the one usually displayed in the top left hand corner of your TV screen and the young man from Sao Paulo was responsible for both of the two goals which gave City their slender margin of victory at the Etihad Stadium. 

His first strike came after 11 minutes when he pounced on a loose ball in the area and guided a half-volley into the far corner but it was his second goal which will probably live longest in the memory.

With Swansea clinging on for a point deep into stoppage time and City struggling to find an opening, David Silva whipped in a cross and Jesus bought himself a yard of space. His downward header was saved well by Lukasz Fabianski but he was on hand to tap in the rebound and send his adoring new public home happy. 

“Most of the big clubs in Europe wanted Gabriel but he came to us and he is a big signing for us,” said post-match press conference. 

“He is hungry, has desire and has shown us so many good things. He’s told me he never gets tired! 

“There are 19-year-olds who are physically strong and some who aren’t. That guy in the box has something special. His first touch is good but his second or third touch has to improve. He’s so intelligent though.” 

“He is a very good player,” said Yaya Toure. 

“He’s very quick, sharp and clever. But we realise we have to be careful with him and don’t get too excited because he has to be focused.”
