Zaba to play holding role in 4-2-3-1?

Pablo Zabaleta looks set to reprise his role as a holding midfielder against West Ham.

The City captain played in the midfield engine room against Celtic and has an excellent game - this evening, withe Fernandinho banned for four games and Fernando injured, he looks set to slot alongside Yaya Toure to protect the back four.

Elsewhere John Stones is recalled in place of Aleks Kolarov, David Silva replaces Jesus Navas and Sergio Aguero’s stellar cameo against Burnley sees him replace Kelechi Iheanacho.

Blues eye FA Cup glory?

The strength of tonight’s team is a clear indication that Pep wants to win this trophy.

City have won the FA Cup just once in 47 years, winning it last in 2011 and losing the 1981 and 2013 finals.

West Ham, too, will believe they can go far in the competition and are expected to field their strongest XI.

Key battles: Carroll v Stones?

Should Slaven Bilic turns to Andy Carroll this evening so City should expect a number of high balls towards the former Liverpool and Newcastle striker.

John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi will know they’ve been in a game tonight and the Hammers will look to pile pressure on the Blues’ rearguard, particularly from set-piece situations.

Dimitri Payet has not had the dramatic impact he had last season - perhaps a hangover from last summer’s Euros - but if he’s in the mood, the diminutive playmaker can be almost unplayable on his day. However, he begins on the bench,
