His first, which came from the penalty spot, saw him leapfrog Neil Young and Bobby Marshall and draw level with Mike Summerbee on 11, while his second, a close-range finish from Raheem Sterling’s cross, means he is now the outright leader on the list with 12.
He now needs 11 more to overtake the Club’s all-time leading scoring in the competition, Fred Tilson, who played for City between 1928-39. His 12 in 13 FA Cup appearances means he has by far the best goals-to-games record in the competition of any Blues player.
And it’s just the latest major milestone the Argentine has reached.
He currently sits third on City’s list of all-time leading goalscorers. This season alone he has overtaken Francis Lee, Joe Hayes, Billy Meredith and Colin Bell, and he now needs just 20 goals to overtake Eric Brook and become the Club’s outright leader.
In Europe, s well clear at the top of the Blues’ all-time goalscorers list. He has bagged 29 in European competition – 19 more than second-placed Francis Lee.
In total, he has scored 158 goals in 238 games for City, registering a far better goals-to-games ratio than any player in the Club’s history.
Aguero also has the best minutes-to-goals ratio since the Premier League began and is currently 18th on the list of all-time leading scorers in the revamped English top flight.
A Manchester City legend, of that there is no doubt.
