The captain acknowledged he felt it was two points lost at the Riverside, but is certain the upcoming matches at the Etihad Stadium will see City enjoy a positive end to the campaign.
“It didn’t happen today, but we need to make sure we finish the season really strongly now,” he said after Sunday’s game.
“We had enough chances to win it in the end but we don’t have to dwell too much about the fact we didn’t get the result we wanted.
“[We have] three home games now and we’ll need our fans behind us to push us over the line and to make sure we can look forward to next season in a way that’s exciting.”
With four games left to play, City sit fourth – tied on points with third placed Liverpool and one ahead of Manchester United.
The visit of Crystal Palace, Leicester and West Brom forms a run of three successive home games and while results at the Etihad have been frustrating at times, Kompany is unequivocal in his belief that playing in front of their own fans will see City guarantee Champions League football next season.
“There’s not one single doubt in our minds that we’ll get the job done,” declared the skipper.
“It’s [home form] not going to be a problem anymore. I fiercely believe that playing at home gives a big advantage to teams and we have to look at it in that way.”
Describing the first half on Teesside as a ‘non-event’, the Belgian acknowledged a quicker start would aid City if they are to win the final matches of 2016/17.
“We’ll be at it from the first minute.
“Today the first half wasn’t good enough but in general it’s not the performances that have been the issue, it’s been an issue of key moments and how we handle key moments.
“But there’s nothing else in our minds than to finish strongly. We’ll do everything we can to win the next four games.
“Finish strongly now and [we] give ourselves something to look forward to next season because you want to be in four competitions. Sometimes exceptional seasons are built on something like this.”
On a personal note there were positives to take for our No.4, who made his fourth successive start, in what has been an injury affected campaign.
The defender, however, is keen to put such thoughts behind him and insists his desire is to kick on and maintain the performance of both himself and the team.
“I want to keep going,” he added.
“It’s not about my comeback any more. It’s about pushing the team forward and keeping my level of play at the level it’s been.
“If I can progress on that then I’ll be looking forward to another really great couple of years and I’m doing everything I can for that.”
