The Argentine equalled Brook’s tally of 177 with his goal against Burnley last month – and his fine goal against Napoli this evening has now seen him edge ahead of Brook who scored 177 goals in 494 starts.
It has taken Sergio just 264 appearances to surpass Brook’s tally and it’s even more impressive considering 39 of Kun’s total appearances have come from the bench.
Aguero has also moved into the top five City League goalscorers of all-time, overtaking fifth placed Billy Gillespie’s 126 goals in a list also led by Brook who managed 159.
Kun joined City from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2011 and made an immediate impact, scoring two and assisting one in a brilliant 30-minute cameo against Swansea on his debut.
It was a sign of things to come. He scored 30 in his first season, including the winner against QPR on the final day of the season that sealed the Club’s first league title in 44 years in dramatic circumstances, which is widely considered to be the greatest Premier League moment of all time.
He scored 28 in 34 games as City won the Premier League again two years later, despite an injury hampering the second half of his campaign.
Last season was his best in terms of goals. He scored 33 in 45 appearances in all competitions, including 20 in 31 in the league and eight in eight in the Champions League, further enhancing his reputation as one of Europe’s elite strikers.
He has won two Premier League titles and two League Cups during his time at the Etihad.
He currently has the best goals-to-minutes ratio in Premier League history. He has scored 107 in 154 Premier League matches at a rate of a goal every 106 minutes. He sits just above Thierry Henry, who managed a goal every 121 minutes during his eight-year stay with Arsenal.
