The Belgian playmaker was at his devastating best against Feyenoord in Rotterdam, but is refusing to get too carried away with the 4-0 win over the Eredivisie champions.
“I think we played a good game and obviously, with a two or three goal advantage it gave us more time and more space to play so while it’s a great start for us, it is still very early days,” De Bruyne said.
“Overall, we played well offensively and defensively. We pressed well, our full-backs attacked down the flanks and I thought we looked really dangerous.”
With the likes of Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sane, Yaya Toure, Ilkay Gundogan, Vincent Kompany and several other first team stars not in action from the start last night, De Bruyne says every player understands they will be rotated at some stage in the coming weeks and months.
“We know how much quality we have and we are all aware that there will be times when we have to spend a couple of games on the bench because the guys that aren’t playing are at the same level and are always ready to step in,” he said.
“It’s a great situation for the Club and of course, we have a very busy schedule ahead of us so we’ll all play a part at some stage.
“I’ve learned so much from players like David Silva, Fernandinho and Yaya Toure so I think I’m improving my all-round game.”
As for De Bruyne’s slightly deeper role in the team this season, he admitted he is enjoying playing a little further back and his form proves it suits his playing style perfectly.
He said: “I like it. The guys who have come in are able to dribble and are quick whereas I feel I’m more of a passing player.
“Throughout my career, I’ve always said that as I go along, I will start to play a deeper role because of the extra bullets I have in my armoury in contrast to the more wing attack players
“I’m not getting as many goals as I did in my first season, but I’m not playing as advanced as I was then.
“That said, I get just as much pleasure from an assist, if not more.”
