Pep Guardiola’s side have won seven and drawn one of their eight matches in all competitions, scoring 27 goals in the process, and currently sit top of the Premier League table on goal difference.
And as City prepare to face Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Tuesday, Walker, who signed from Tottenham in the summer, says teams will struggle to nullify the Blues’ attacking quality – and believes Guardiola’s managerial pedigree gives them an extra edge.
“He is always giving out words of encouragement,” Walker said.
“The standard of players and teams he has managed in the past speaks volumes.
“It’s a good motivation to have there, with the calibre of manager that he is.
“Hopefully we can just keep performing as we’re doing. He always wants more from us, which is good, to keep pushing us.
“If we keep doing the basics right, and keep performing at the level we’re performing at, hopefully we will be a force that won’t be stopped.
“It is just about consistency.
“If we keep playing at the level we are playing at, I don’t think we’ll come up against many opposition who will cause us problems.
“With the strike force we have got and if we keep keeping clean sheets, I think we’re going to be tough.
“We need to keep listening to the gaffer and his tactics, and we hope that will see us across the line.”
City’s 5-0 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday means they are the first side since Blackburn Rovers in 1958-59 to score five or more goals in three consecutive top-flight matches in the same season, and their 21 league goals is more than they have managed at this stage of any campaign.
They have bagged a remarkable 22 in their last five matches, conceding just once.
The team’s attacking play has been wonderful to watch, with Walker and fellow full-backs Danilo and Benjamin Mendy, offering a new dimension in wide areas.
Walker says Guardiola’s love of attacking full-backs was a key reason he decided to join the Club from Tottenham.
“I think that was one of the big reasons for signing here was that the gaffer likes to play the way I like to play with attacking full-backs,” he said.
“The standard of full-backs is very high as well. He is improving me as a player. I need to keep training hard and keep working at the things that I need to improve on just to make sure that I get that shirt come Saturday or in the Champions League.
“I think it is going to push all three of us. Dani can play left or right, and Mendy and I are occupying each side.
“It is a good dressing room to be around. We all expect high standards from each other.
“We need to keep working hard as a back three with full-backs and keep doing what the gaffer says, keep attacking and offering that outlet for the midfielders in creating space.”
