Pep Guardiola says he will know on Friday afternoon whether Sergio Aguero, Kevin De Bruyne and John Stones will be fit to face Everton.

The Argentine striker has not featured since the 2-2 Champions League draw against Lyon, while the defender was substituted in the midweek triumph over Hoffenheim and the Belgian has missed the majority of the season with knee injuries.

With David Silva, Danilo, Benjamin Mendy and Claudio Bravo also sidelined, the Blues are facing a difficult period with a packed festive schedule – but Guardiola explained he will assess the fitness of Aguero, De Bruyne and Stones at Friday’s training session before deciding whether they are able to return for the Saturday lunchtime visit of the Toffees.

On Aguero, he stated: “He did the last two training sessions. On Thursday, he trained with the team.

“He has no pain and we will decide.

“(With KDB, it is the same case as Sergio – he has no pain but we will see.

“Yesterday he (Stones) was in treatment. Today he is training. We will see how they feel because when you have just 60 hours of recovery (it is difficult). We will see.”

Asked whether City’s injuries will force the Blues to spend in the January transfer market, Guardiola dismissed the suggestion.

“No, we are not going to sign anyone,” he asserted.
