Vincent Kompany has been named in Belgium’s 23-man World Cup squad.

The City skipper limped off with a groin injury in Belgium’s friendly with Portugal, but the Red Devils are hopeful he will recover in time to take part in the World Cup.

Belgium head coach Roberto Martinez said: “Vincent Kompany is a true leader. He performed in a fantastic manner when he was on the pitch. His leadership is essential for us.

“Until 24 hours before our game against Panama, we can still make a replacement. We need to wait a period of seven, eight days with Vincent.

“Then we will get a good opportunity to make a diagnosis.”

Kevin De Bruyne is also in the final squad.
