With 16 of our City players representing their country in this year’s World Cup, we continue our coverage with daily player profiles - today, we focus on City and Spain legend David Silva.

RUSSIA 2018: City players’ Group stage schedule

Squad role: Despite sacking Head Coach Julen Lopetegui on the eve of the tournament, Spain will still be one of the favourites to win the World Cup.

The Spanish were sensationally dumped out of the 2014 World Cup at the group stage having started as world champions, so they will have a point to prove in Russia.

For a player with 121 caps and counting, David Silva has only played 241 minutes of World Cup football.

Since 2014, Silva has become an integral first team member for La Roja and if fit, should start every game.

His central midfield partnership with Andres Iniesta may be poised for a final tournament, they represent one of the greatest of any pairing in Russia.

Expect David to play his usual playmaker role alongside Iniesta and possibly Isco - presuming new coach Fernando Hierro continues with a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Spain are in Group B along with Morocco and Portugal.

International highlights: David was part of the 2010 Spain squad that won the World Cup so has been there, done that.

He has also won two European Championships in 2008 and 2012 - the latter being the last major title this golden generation of Spain players won.

Silva is the sixth most capped Spain player ever and the fourth top scorer.

Whether this is to be his last World Cup remains to be seen...
