A superb 3-1 triumph at Everton moved City 16 points clear at the top of the table and set the scene for what promises to be a dramatic occasion at the Etihad next Saturday tea-time.
A City win would seal the title for Pep Guardiola’s side and though the Blues have a huge Champions League quarter-final first leg at Liverpool to negotiate first on Wednesday, Kompany knows the significance of next Saturday’s derby showdown.
“It (winning the title next Saturday) would mean the world to our fans,” Kompany declared.
“I’ve lived in Manchester long enough to know how important it is to them (the fans) and how important it is to the other team that it doesn’t happen.”
The skipper added: “United will have seven days to prepare but we’ll first have to have a good game in midweek against Liverpool.

“We need that momentum and good feeling so we need to have a good Champions League game.
“We have a big game in midweek and we have to deal with Man United next weekend so we’ll take it game by game but we have done very well so far.”
First-half goals from Leroy Sane, Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling ripped the Toffees apart and helped seal City’s 13th league win on the road – a new club record.
It was a stunning return to domestic action after a 19-day break – all the more so as Sane – who opened the scoring with a wonderful fourth minute goal – revealed City had had very little preparation time.
“It’s always difficult after the international break with everyone away with their national team and we didn’t have much chance to train together as we had to recover so I think we had a really good game today,” said Sane.
