It will be the 184th meeting with our North West neighbours and there’s been some memorable battles over the years, from FA Cup semi-finals to landmark victories during title run-ins.
After a 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium in August, Pep Guardiola will be hoping to go one better on Merseyside as we look to take another step towards the Premier League title.
And ahead of this latest instalment, we take a look back at five classic encounters against the Toffees…
City 3-1 Everton: January 2016
Roared on by the Etihad faithful, Manuel Pellegrini’s men fought back from a 2-1 first leg deficit to book a place in the 2016 League Cup final.
On a night of high drama, we got off to the worst possible start as Ross Barkley gave the visitors the lead.
Fernandinho responded shortly after and then, with the introduction of Kevin De Bruyne just after the hour, we finally found our rhythm.
It was an inspiring cameo from the Belgian, who turned home Raheem Sterling’s cut back before teeing up Sergio Aguero, who booked our second trip to Wembley in two years.
Everton 2-3 City: May 2014
There was plenty at stake when we travelled down the East Lancs Road four years ago.
A Premier League title for ourselves, while Roberto Martinez’ high-flying Toffees were looking to keep their Champions League dreams alive, but in the knowledge a win would boost our title-challengers, Liverpool.
Barkley’s stunning strike did nothing to calm our nerves and neither did the sight of Aguero, who had equalised, limping off.
But in Edin Dzeko, City had a man who thrived in the high-pressure environment of a finely balanced title race and the Bosnian duly delivered a brace to spark celebrations on the City bench.
City 2-0 Everton: September 2011
Unlike the aforementioned games, there was considerably less riding on this fixture, but it earns its inclusion by virtue of banishing what was somewhat of an Everton hoodoo.
The Toffees had won on their last four visits to the Etihad and performed with similar resolve for the first hour, but the introduction of Mario Balotelli swung things in our favour.
His deflected effort opened the scoring with 22 minutes remaining before David Silva’s slide rule through ball allowed James Milner to fire past Tim Howard to wrap up the points.
A good win which gave an early indication of our pedigree in that fateful season.
City 5-1 Everton: May 2004
In a matchup between two sides that just avoided relegation, City ended the 2003/04 season in emphatic fashion.
Kevin Keegan’s men were three goals to the good at half time after Paulo Wanchope and Nicolas Anelka forced home, before Antoine Sibierski and Shaun Wright-Phillips netted composed finishes to ensure the score line reflected City’s dominance.
City 4-0 Everton: August 1994
City had already responded admirably to an opening day defeat to Arsenal by beating West Ham United 3-0 at home.
And they went one better when Everton visited Maine Road.
After a goalless first half City ran riot, with Uwe Rosler out jumping David Unsworth to crash a header beyond Neville Southall, before Paul Walsh rounded the ‘keeper to finish off a fine team move.
Both men grabbed a brace that day with the latter curling one into the bottom left corner after a sweeping counter attack, before Rosler executed a deft chip to seal the win in the calmest of fashions.
