That top-flight triumph wouldn’t be repeated for 44 years, but the Blues have added three now in the past six years so we’re making up for lost time!
There are various mementos from the 67/68 season in our archives and one that has survived the past 50 years is this caricature, drawn by E. Reinfield.
It was kindly loaned to the Club by lifelong fan, Denise Daley.
Denise’s son Clark, and her two grandsons are passionate City supporters, too.
This caricature was given as a gift to legendary City scout Harry Godwin just after the Blues had become Division 1 champions for only the second time.
Denise and Harry became close friends and in later life Harry moved in with Denise and her family until he passed away in 1993.
Harry would often take her son, Clark, to matches when he could.
As for blue-eyed boys, whether that’s a touch of irony by the artist or not we may never know - but let’s just say Mercer’s boys could mix it with the best if they needed to.
There were no shrinking violets with the likes of Mike Doyle, Mike Summerbee and Francis Lee in the team, that’s for sure...
