From the opening strike of the season to Kyle Walker’s debut City goal, there are many to be admired already.
Here, our Club Journalists pick out which goal has impressed them most so far…
Rob Pollard: Bernardo Silva v Arsenal
Bernardo Silva, for me, has been the player of the season so far for City, and his goal at the Emirates put the icing on a dominant display.
Benjamin Mendy, a constant threat throughout the match, burst forward down the left and played a fine one-two with Raheem Sterling to buy a yard of space, before pulling the ball back to the edge of the area. Bernardo, in exactly the right place, hit a powerful first-time strike that flew past Petr Cech into the top corner.
An emphatic finish to a swift attack that had left Arsenal chasing shadows. Brilliant.
Neil Leigh: Raheem Sterling v Arsenal
There’s nothing like starting as you mean to go on and City’s first goal in the opening game of our Premier League title defence spoke volumes about the defending champions’ intent.
A tough first assignment away at an Arsenal side rejuvenated by the appointment of Unai Emery as manager, allied to the demands of a draining World Cup finals on several members of Pep Guardiola’s squad had led many to view a trip to the Emirates with trepidation.
Instead, City fired out an instant reminder of the quality and commitment to attacking football that helped rewrite the record books last season.
And it was perfectly exemplified by Raheem Sterling’s brilliant opening goal in North London.
Receiving the ball from Benjamin Mendy, Sterling coolly drifted inside three Arsenal defenders before superbly despatching the ball past Petr Cech and inside the right-hand post.
What a way to kick-off the new season!
Dave Clayton: Ilkay Gundogan v Cardiff City
There was something a bit special about Ilkay Gundogan’s goal at Cardiff.
It wasn’t the most crucial we’ll score all season, nor was it a last-gasp match-winner.
What it did have was class and technique stamped all over it.
Leroy Sane’s efforts to get a shot away were foiled by the Bluebirds’ defence, so he instead played the ball to Gundogan on the edge of the box.
With the path ahead blocked, the German midfielder instead played a neat ball into Raheem Sterling who returned the pass as Gundogan moved around his marker before side-footing a powerful drive into the top right-hand corner.
It was a stunning strike and City’s third of the afternoon, effectively ending the hosts’ interest in the game.
Abi Withey: Kyle Walker v Newcastle
It’s fair to say that winning goals don’t come much better than Kyle Walker’s rocket against Newcastle.
Following a disappointing draw to Wolves just a week earlier, Pep Guardiola’s side were hungry for the three points. But after DeAndre Yedlin managed to claw back a goal for the Magpies to cancel out Raheem Sterling’s early strike it looked as though the Blues had a battle on their hands.
Cue Walker.
The game almost came to a halt as Sergio Aguero neatly chipped the ball towards Walker who then, with one swift movement, fired a superb low effort from 30 yards out.
Not only did the full-back bag the winner in style, it marked the 28-year-old’s first City goal in spectacular fashion.
It may only be October, but, for me, it’s going to be pretty hard to beat that thunderous strike for Goal of the Season come May.
