David Silva said he believed Manchester City are improving with every game after helping inspire a superb 3-0 Champions League win away at Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Spanish midfield marvel scored a sublime opening goal for City in Kharkiv and produced a wonderful all-round performance to help the Blues record a second successive win on the road in Europe.

Silva wasn’t alone in shining bright, with a host of City players delivering displays of the highest quality.

And reflecting on the victory, El Mago said he thought it demonstrated that Pep Guardiola’s side are getting better and better with each performance.

Silva said: “I think we are playing better every game. We need to improve a little bit more but we are in a good way. If we play like this, we will get more points.

“We could have scored a lot of goals. We scored three and we had a lot of chances, so we are happy with three points.

“The Champions League is difficult, and this is tough place to come but we did really well today, so we are happy.”

Silva’s midfield colleague Fernandinho was another to shine on his return to his former club.

And the Brazilian said it was a measure of City’s quality that the hosts were largely kept at arms’ length.

Fernandinho said: “I’ve come here and seen so many faces and friends. I’m glad to be back here. It was an important game for us.

“They have a lot of good, attacking players. They make the game so hard.”
