The reigning champions visit Burnley on Sunday, knowing a win, followed by two more victories against Leicester City and Brighton, would be enough to secure successive championships for the first time in the Club’s history.
And while Guardiola is prepared to admit that regardless of where the Premier League trophy ends up, he is satisfied with his players’ level of performance, he says the chance to achieve successive titles is driving his team on at this, the business end of the season.
“We want to win it,” he said.

“We are not going to say: ‘Enough, the manager told us how good we are.’
“We want to win the Premier League, for sure.
“Maybe more than last season, to do something unique in this club.”
Whilst that immediate challenge remains at the forefront of the manager’s mind, a desire to improve further offers additional motivation in the long term, with Guardiola excited by the prospect of what this squad can achieve in the coming years.
With a cohort of players in their early or mid-twenties combining with a group of seemingly evergreen experienced performers, Pep is adamant individual improvements can be made and is determined to ensure his team gets better with each passing season.
“If I did not feel there was room to improve it would not make sense for us to continue,” he explained.
“There are things we can do quicker and in a better way. We can improve individually and if we do, we’ll improve collectively.
“I don’t have doubts about that.
“I always have the feeling – and I like this feeling – that the team will be better than last season.
“There is a gap to improve, but it is still a joy to train these guys and the guys are still happy to be together and play in that way.”
