1Humble beginnings
Born 27 May 1994 in Barreiro, Cancelo’s first taste of football was with his local club, Barreirense, who currently play in the Portuguese third tier.
2Bigger things
Lisbon giants Benfica recognised his early talent and he joined their academy at the age of 14.
3Young star
Cancelo developed into one of Benfica’s best prospects and helped their U19s to the 2013 Portuguese championship, where he scored twice in the final.
4First-team chance
He made his first senior appearance in January 2014, as a substitute in a 1-0 Portuguese League Cup win over Gil Vicente, with his first league appearance coming against Porto in May of that year.
5Medal collector
Cancelo has won league titles in Portugal and Italy, with Benfica and Juventus respectively.
6Familiar faces
He knows compatriot Bernardo Silva from his time at Benfica and has also played alongside Nicolas Otamendi, who was at Valencia when Cancelo was on loan there in 2014/15.

7Personal accolades
Juventus swooped for the defender after an impressive loan spell at Inter Milan during 2017/18, when he was named in the Serie A Team of the Year.
8Stat man
In the second half of that season at the San Siro, he created more chances and completed more dribbles than any other defender in the league.
9Nation’s star
He has represented Portugal at every level from U16 through to the senior team and was part of the squad that finished runners-up at the 2015 European U21 Championships. This summer he helped the senior team win the UEFA Nations League.
10Versatile
In addition to his natural right-back role, Cancelo was also deployed at left-back, right-wing and left-wing whilst at Juventus.
