Handed the captain’s armband with David Silva on the bench, De Bruyne – who suffered a number of long-term injuries last term - led by example, creating both of City’s goals in an action-packed 2-2 draw and earning widespread acclaim for his terrific all-round performance.
Now fully fit and refreshed, the positive news for all City fans is that the 28-year-old believes he is only going to further improve with the season still in its infancy.
“I feel good and I’m becoming better,” the Belgian said following what was a hugely entertaining encounter.

“It’s still the beginning of the season so sometimes it’s heavy but I feel fine so everything will be OK this season.”
The only frustration for De Bruyne and his City team-mates was that we were unable to convert our superiority into three points with VAR ruling out Gabriel Jesus’s injury time strike.
Despite that frustration however, the Belgian insisted Pep Guardiola’s side had every reason to be positive ahead of next weekend’s trip to Bournemouth.
“We played well and I think we deserved to win,” De Bruyne added. “The team played really well and played offensively the way we want to play.
“We didn’t get the three points but that’s the only thing we didn’t get.
“We want to win every game but it’s very difficult. We deserved to win and we will go again next week and everything will be fine.”
Playing alongside De Bruyne in midfield on Saturday was summer signing Rodrigo who, on his Etihad debut, produced an impressive and assured display.

And KDB said he had no doubts that the Spaniard as well as Portuguese defender Joao Cancelo, who arrived from Juventus last week just before the transfer window closed, would both prove vital additions to the squad.
“They are doing really well,” De Bruyne continued.
“Joao only joined us last week so he probably needs a bit more adjusting (time) but both of them will really help us to play well.”
