Pep Guardiola dismissed the suggestion Liverpool are feeling the pressure in the title race.

City had capitalised on a recent dip in the Reds’ results to claw back a points deficit and return to the top of the Premier League table, but Guardiola asserts Jurgen Klopp’s side possess the mental strength to rekindle their form.

“I don’t know how you connect a ‘lack of mentality’ to dropping four points,” he told press. “I don’t see the connection.

“You feel pressure when you’re seven points behind. You will be there but then maybe Leicester will do a job…

“At the end, it’s Liverpool – they play a lot of these games; they were in the Champions League Final last year.

“We had a tough two games this week and now, we will have six days to rest.

“These kind of games... these kind of players have eight or nine games like this per season.

“Liverpool haven’t won the league in a while but they are okay.”

Guardiola also expressed his pride for the way City have responded to falling behind in the title race, with previous Champions having tended to struggle the following season.

“I know what happened to the Champions for the last five or six years,” he stated.

“All of them were out – they didn’t have a chance to win the Premier League – but we are there.

“That is what has delighted me to the most this season. We want to be there until the end and Sunday could help us.

“We will be there, fighting to be Champions again.”
