Oleksandr Zinchenko insisted that his stunning long-range strike was intentional as Manchester City recorded a remarkable 9-0 win over Burton in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg at the Etihad.

The Ukrainian curled a spectacular 25-yard effort over Burton goalkeeper Bradley Collins to make the score 4-0 in the 37th minute following a fifth minute Kevin De Bruyne header and Gabriel Jesus brace.

Jesus contributed another two alongside additional goals from Phil Foden, Kyle Walker and Riyad Mahrez, which included four in a 13-minute period around the hour mark to add further gloss to an already convincing score-line.

Zinchenko jokingly refuted claims that his goal was accidental before praising the team’s approach to the game, even when the result was beyond doubt:

“Was my goal a cross!? A little respect please!,” he teased.
