Both Aguero and City team-mate Nicolas Otamendi produced impressive displays as Argentina overcame the challenge of Qatar to book their place in the knockout stages of the South American showpiece where they will now face Venezuela in Rio de Janeiro on Friday.
City’s all-time record goalscorer was a constant thorn in the side of the Qataris, forcing several fine saves from goalkeeper Saad Al Sheeb including an incredible one-handed block on the hour from Aguero’s six-yard drive.
But Kun’s persistence was finally rewarded on 82 minutes. Picking the ball up in midfield Kun drifting past two defenders before drilling a stunning low shot into the bottom corner.

That added to a fourth minute opening goal from Lautaro Martinez. The Inter Milan striker latched on to a loose ball after a poor attempt at playing out from Qatar, Martinez jumped in to intercept and scuffed a toe-poked effort into the bottom corner
Otamendi also came close to adding to Argentina’s tally, the City central defender seeing a powerful 38th minute header flash just over the bar.
And Aguero’s superb finish set the seal on a fine night’s work by the City pair.
