Pep Guardiola says he has little interest in Liverpool’s results at this stage of the season.

The champions can close the gap to 11 points with victory over Crystal Palace, but Jurgen Klopp’s side will still have two games in hand, so the City boss prefers to focus solely on what is team are doing and they can improve.

“It will focus on Zaha and Crystal Palace,” said Pep when asked if he would be hoping Manchester United win at Anfield on Sunday.

“Tuesday we have Sheffield United and being so far away from Liverpool, I think it’s not interesting to look what they do.

“It is better to focus on what we can improve on for the rest of season - not just in Premier League - and prepare we as well as we can.

“We are far away, it’s because they are unstoppable. They won 21 out of 22 games so they would be leading all the leagues around the world, not just this one.”

Asked why City are 14 points behind at this point, Pep said: “Because we drop points and some games we score goals, but we conceded as well and didn’t win games.

“When we talk about results, we talk about results. We score goals and continue to attack well, but reality is reality.

“Our goal at present was to first catch Leicester and now, it’s to win as many games and have the motivation to play well.

“The world won’t finish this season. We have to improve this season. In the second season, we had incredible success because of the season before.

“I think the team showed this season still we are going to do it again.

“I said in previous press conferences, the year after being champion, the challenge is to be the champion again. We are still there, far away yeah because opponent is exceptional, but we are still there at Christmastime in a tough period.

“We are going to fight and play and we are still there, that is an incredible compliment to my players.

“The next game and the next one after that is to secure qualification for the Champions League. That is the important target in terms of results.

“United are coming in a few days, we are not in the final and we have to play well.

“Overall, I think the way we play is quite good all the season and I don’t agree with the opinions that we haven’t been as good.

“I think the way we played was good even the games we didn’t win - of course there have been ups and downs and we were not consistent, but in general it was good.”
