Stuart Pearce has reasserted that Micah Richards is staying at Manchester City.

According to press speculation, the 18-year-old defender handed a transfer request in to the Club earlier this week, but the Manager has set the record straight.

Said Pearce: “Micah has not put in a transfer request, and he is very happy at this football club. He’s had a terrific start to his career, and played 14 games last season for us but this season will be harder for him.

“He’s making excellent progress and we hope he will be a Manchester City player for many years.”

The entire squad has looked good in training since they reconvened at Carrington last week, and Pearce is delighted with how pre-season has gone so far.

“The thing that I have been impressed with is their professionalism in the off-season, straight away we can tell by fitness tests and, just as importantly, by the eyes that they have looked after themselves. That gives us the chance to pitch them in at a higher level of training.

21 players were in action in the opening pre-season friendly at Wrexham, with only goalkeeper Joe Hart staying on the pitch for the whole 90 minutes, but the squad’s other ‘keepers are due to see some action in the next friendly on Saturday.

“I spoke with Tim Flowers and our decision was to get Joe involved straight away for 90 minutes. Fitness is not a problem for him and it was good to get him involved with the lads. We’ll rest him on Saturday, and give Nicky and Kasper 45 minutes each at Rochdale.”
