This morning mcfc.co.uk caught up with Kenny, who told us: “We played a very experience and physically strong Bolton side. We were a very young Manchester City side last night.
“In terms of our football, in the first half we went a little bit long, maybe tried to play the killer pass too many times. Second half we kept it moving and showed what we could do a little bit.
“In the second 45 I thought we played very well and got on top and had we taken our chances, we could have got back into the game. I was pleased with several performances from the young players and I’m looking for steady improvement as the season goes on.”
And Kenny’s men will get an early chance for revenge as the Barclays Reserve League North kicks off next week with a trip to face Bolton on the Wednesday.
Looking ahead, Jackett added: “Bolton won the league last year, they are strong, full of senior players and very physically strong as well.
“We have to make sure that as well as playing our football we can stand up to that. They put the ball in the box and they’ve got several big lads there.
“It’s something we have to come to terms with that ahead of our meeting in the league next Wednesday.”
A couple of plus points from the night’s work were that Emile Mpenza and Joe Hart staked their claims to be included in the side for Derby County’s Premier League visit tomorrow.
“Emile had 45 minutes and I think that’s his first 45 for maybe a month,” Kenny said.
“He had a couple of very good chances in the first half, which maybe with a bit more training he would have finished. But it’s good to see him back for the Club and it’s a good addition for our squad.
“Joe Hart, at 20, looked a very good goalkeeper last night and the Club’s in a strong position with the likes of him and Kasper being so young and full of ability.”
