The out of contract goalkeeper was absent from the first day of pre-season training yesterday and was believed to be in the capital discussing terms with the south London outfit.
After years of injury agony, a fit-again Weaver started last season as the Blues’ number one before £2m Swedish signing Andreas Isaksson took over as the Club’s custodian.
Weaver will be best remembered in a City shirt for his penalty saving heroics in possibly the most memorable game in the Club’s history after the 2-2 Playoff Final draw against Gillingham in 1999 at Wembley. He his debut came against Blackpool in August 1998 and he made a total of 207 appearances.
City’s goalkeeping coach Eric Steele paid tribute to him, saying: “Nick was an absolute pleasure to work with. He’s a true professional, and the way he battled back from an injury that would have finished many people speaks volumes for him. Even when he wasn’t in the first team towards the end of last season his dedication in training never let up, and I hope everything goes well for him.”
