Sven-Goran Eriksson’s most expensive recruit of his summer spending spree, Rolando Bianchi, has faced the press ahead of our game against Aston Villa on Sunday.

Speaking in English throughout, the quick learning £8.8m Italian striker said: “My English is improving and for me it is getting easier, because I spoke very little English when I first arrived here.

“In two months I have studied and now I am very happy with my English. I understand the bad words, but I understand my team mates too, and it’s good that they speak slowly to me.”

Despite having a Manager fluent in Italian, amongst many different languages, ‘Rolly’ confirmed that it’s only English spoken between the two: “The Manager speaks English with me because it’s important to listen and repeat. It’s important that he only speaks English to me.”

As for life at the City, the former Reggina target man added: “I am very happy and for us now is an important time.

“We hope that this season is better than last season. We are working very well and hope we can win on Sunday.

“The last two we have lost, but for us it’s important to come back with a win. The Premier League is difficult and it will be a difficult season.”

Rolando was also asked what he thought were the best things about playing for the Blues, to which he replied: “The supporters and the other players. For me this experience is very important.

“In England the play is very strong, in Italy it’s more tactical. Here it’s very difficult for the striker because there is more physical contact and it’s very strong.

“It’s a very quick league and it’s different. I hope this season that I can play well.”

And the 24-year-old made the perfect start to the season as he opened the scoring at Upton Park as “Sven’s foreign legion” overcame West Ham 2-0.

Of the goal Bianchi said: “I was very happy, because it’s not easy to play in a new type of football and if the start is good I hope the season will be too.

“It was difficult at the start with so many new players but now we know everybody we hope to play good football.”
