The Welsh striker, who enjoyed a prolific 2006/07 season for the reserves and the Pontin’s side, opened the scoring with a header from a free kick in the first half. After the break, Evans doubled the lead when he converted the penalty awarded when he was hauled down inside the box.
The performance from a young Blues side against a Blackpool team containing several players with plenty of league miles on the clock pleased reserve team coach Kenny Jackett, who told mcfc.co.uk:
“It was a good performance from us. Blackpool had a lot of players with league experience in their side, but our keeper Richard Martin was outstanding, and he made some terrific saves, particularly in the first half.
“This was a totally different kind of game from the win over Manchester United, where they had a team full of good youngsters but its all part of the education for our players. Blackpool have a strong squad, they had eight players with league experience that I recognised so to get a win like this bodes well for our young lads. It’s good for the Pontin’s side to get their first win of the season under their belts.”
