City finally went ahead in a see-saw match through Martin Petrov’s second with 30 minutes left to play, but Fulham substitute Danny Murphy, a familiar face to the City boss from his time as England manager, pegged the Blues back with the equaliser.
Sven said: “We could have scored more, but we have conceded three and I’m not very happy about that. Normally we do better but this is a new, young team and you have to bear that in mind. These things happen, but I hope not very often!
“The positive side is that for much of the game we played really good football, and we were more direct than at Blackburn. That was good to see.
“I thought we would get our second away win of the season, but credit to Fulham as well. We made a few small mistakes and paid for them. Getting a point and scoring three goals away from home is not too bad.”
Bulgarian international Petrov scored his first goals for the club as well as having a big part in the Emile Mpenza strike that came between them, and the Manager was pleased that the man he signed from Atletico Madrid during the summer has finally opened his account with the Blues.
“He normally scores goals, I don’t know how many shots he has had during the season, and he has been in a few good positions, but today he took his chances. They were two nice goals, I’m happy for him, he needed that.
“I think he’s a great player, and he’s an important one for us. He has pace, good technique and a great shot, I’m very happy for him.”
