Vedran Corluka is expecting an open game when relegation-threatened Fulham visit City on Saturday.

The Cottagers are in desperate need of a win in their bid to avoid dropping out of the top flight for the first time since 2001, and the versatile Croatian thinks Roy Hodgson’s side could go for broke.

He says, “I’m expecting an open game because they need to beat us, we want a win because we want to go to Europe so I think it will be a good game for the fans to watch, and hopefully we’ll win.

“It is very important we win our remaining matches as that might take us into Europe. We keep looking at the table and we know what we need to do, because we would love to play in Europe next season.”

The Blues go into the game after two consecutive wins, which the 22-year-old came about partly through a welcome change in luck.

“I don’t think that much changed, we trained the same but we won the games. I think the luck has changed for us.

“It was important for us to win those two games, because our form had not been so good, so we’re very confident coming into this game against Fulham.”

The former Dinamo Zagreb player has earned some glowing reviews for his performances at right back, central defence and central midfield during this campaign, and summing up his first year at City he adds:

“I’ve enjoyed it a lot this season with it being my first in this country, it’s been a new experience for me and I think it has gone well. I’m very happy that I came to City. It was important for me that I could show everybody that I deserved to play in the best league in the world.”
