Press speculation over the summer has linked the 20-year-old midfielder with a move away from the City of Manchester Stadium, but the Blues boss wants to move quickly and tie Johnson to the Club for years to come.
Urmston-born Michael was first-choice in the City engine room from the start of last season, but a reoccurring abdominal injury saw him sit out a large part of the middle of the campaign. A strong comeback saw him re-establish himself for the Blues as well as make his England Under 21 debut, and he has clearly impressed his new club manager of late, having started the UEFA Cup win over EB/Streymur.
Hughes says, “We have had no enquiries for him, and Michael is a big part of what I want to do here. He is a young player with great potential, and it does not surprise me that good players may attract interest in them.
“My stance with Michael is that we very much want him to stay and hopefully we can resolve his contract very quickly.”
