The left-back, currently sidelined with a knee injury picked up at Reading last weekend, is aware of the need to pick up points but he does not want the Blues to abandon the approach that served them well in the early part of the season.
The 28-year-old declares, “I’m very surprised that we have not scored in the last couple of games, and it’s hard to swallow because we have been creating the chances. With the players that we have we should be scoring, earlier in the season we were scoring a few and the defence was holding their own.
“Hopefully we’ll get things back on track, but we need to stick to our principles. We know we’re working in the right way, but we need to do it for the 90 minutes.
“I think we have been playing OK but it’s all about putting it in the back of the net, and that’s what we have to keep working on. Everton was a fine example, for the first 25 minutes Everton could not get out of their half but we could not score.
“We’re getting anxious when we don’t score, but we should stick to the gameplan and play football in the way we can do.”
Of his own injury, which looks set to rule him out of the Spurs game on Sunday, Michael is confident that he will only be out in the short term.
“It’s not serious, Richard and myself will not be out for too long, Nedum looks like he will be back soon. Hopefully we’ll have a full-strength side again with a week or two.
“A lot of clubs go through difficult patches and we are having a bit of a flat stage at the moment. The defence had done well for most of the season and stayed injury-free, but now four out of our main defenders are injured so it is going to be difficult for now.”
