City created few clear-cut chances against a Wigan side happy to sit back and hit on the counter, and reacting to the game Sven said:
“We have to keep working and not think that the season is over. We worked hard to get the goal tonight, like we did against Everton, we got better as the game went on.
“Joe Hart saved us at the end as well but it is very difficult to break down these kind of teams, Wigan are hard-working, physically strong and their two strikers created problems for us.
“But it’s up to us, we must keep working and it’s forbidden to throw the towel in now. Europe is still there and waiting for us if we take the chance.”
City’s best opportunities fell to Benjani, but the Zimbabwean was unable to convert either side of the break in a game where the side scoring first would probably have won.
“They were two great chances,” the Manager continued, “and in games like this if you don’t score you will get frustrated as there are never many chances. Wigan did not lose the ball much, they put eight or nine men behind the ball and like a lot of football today, that makes it very difficult.
“The important thing is that we don’t give up, go to Reading with the same spirit and attitude and hopefully get the goal that we deserve.”
