The Blues make the journey along the M62 aiming to bounce back from last weekend’s defeat to Fulham, and according to the Manager the reaction he has seen at Carrington this week was just what he wanted.
Sven says, “The boys have worked very hard this week, I’m very pleased with them. It was important that they did that in training, otherwise we would be a bit flat in the remaining games, so I hope we get the opposite of course. I’m looking for us to play some good football and to put in two good performances.”
A place in the UEFA Cup next season via finishing fifth is out of reach, but what are City’s targets over the remaining two games?
The Manager continues, “To finish the season as well as possible, and to try to put in two good performances as well, that’s important for us as professionals. It’s what we have been talking about all week and what we will try to do.”
Sunday will not be Sven’s first time at Anfield as a manager, having led England as well as Benfica there, and he says the City players who have never played there before should relish the prospect.
“The atmosphere at Anfield is one of the best in this country, it can’t be much better for a player, playing in front of a full crowd away at Liverpool.”
Earlier in the week the Manager predicted that City’s defence would be bolstered by the return of Richard Dunne at Anfield after his recent hamstring injury, and he has now confirmed that by saying:
“Richard Dunne is back, Onuoha and Richards are still out of course, but we have the captain back which is really good news for us. He’s a very important player for us, and a real leader so it’s great that he is available.
“Valeri Bojinov is not 100% match fit yet, but he’s been getting better and better. The important thing for Valeri is that he will be ready for the start of next season.”
