The UEFA Cup group game saw the striker make his first competitive appearance of the season since overcoming a knee injury he suffered in the final warm-up game, against AC Milan, in early August.
The Blues were pegged back after SWP’s second-minute goal, and after going two goals ahead in the second half Twente hit back once more to ensure a tense closing period, but overall Darius feels that City were worthy winners.
“We deserved a bit more of a comfortable win than the one we actually got given the way we played. Twente got goals at the right times for them, but the first one was a bit dubious. I’m certain there was a foul in there but we reacted well, and we ground out a victory so we’re pleased.
“Maybe they deserved a draw, and towards the end they had quite a few chances. They may have deserved a goal, but they didn’t deserve a win. Their first goal should not have stood as far as I am concerned, and they might have scored near the end but I still think we would have got the win.
“We’ve been able to score quality goals this season, but if we can stop conceding then we have every chance of doing well.”
The games are coming thick and fast now, and Darius is already focused on this Sunday’s visit of a resurgent Spurs, who brushed Dinamo Zagreb aside 4-0 last night.
“We’ve got a big game this weekend,” he continues, “and it was always going to be important to go into that one with a win under our belts. We’ve done that, and we need to build on that now. We’ve got the quality to win and Tottenham are on a high after winning a few games, but Sunday’s all about us. We need to pick ourselves up and start climbing.”
