Gareth Barry has warned his team-mates to get used to canny opponents who roll up at the City of Manchester Stadium and "park the coach" in front of goal.

Fulham’s 2-2 Premier League draw frustrated Mark Hughes’ men as well as the crowd, with Roy Hodgson’s team getting behind the ball and relying on counter-attack to snatch a point.

England midfielder Barry said: “Now we’re being talked about as a big club who can achieve things, the lesser teams are going to raise their game - it’s going to be their cup final coming here and playing us.

“It’s something that the top teams have had to put up with over the years, and there’s no reason why we should get used to it. Birmingham’s confidence will be high after a brilliant win over Sunderland, so that’s another tough one next.

But it’s shaping up to be an exciting season in terms of how close teams are, and we want to make sure we are in the mix at the top end

Micah Richards had what appeared to be a legitimate goal from a corner chalked off, with the referee later pointing the finger at a bemused Barry when City queried the decision.

Gareth revealed: “The ref said at half time that it was me, but I don’t see myself too close to the incident. I don’t remember too much about it and I was surprised when my name was mentioned.”
