The Argentina striker, who celebrates his goals with a special dance and has scored 28 since signing last summer, was named today on the shortlist for the prestigious trophy voted by his fellow players.
Blues and England goalkeeper Joe Hart also features on the shortlist for PFA Young Player of the Year in recognition of his brilliant season on loan at promoted Birmingham.
Slick mover Tevez will have to glide past formidable opposition if he is to make history by becoming the first City player to lift the top award, which was inaugurated in 1974.
Didier Drogba of Chelsea and Wayne Rooney of Manchester United, his rivals for the Golden Boot, are also on a glittering shortlist along with Arsenal playmaker Cesc Fabregas.
World Cup hopeful Hart faces the challenge of Aston Villa midfielder James Milner as well as Fabregas and Rooney, who are also nominated for the Young Player award.
PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor said of Carlos: “He is such an energy-packed player and you cannot fail to be impressed by the amount of work he puts in, week in, week out.
He is the sort of player that is going to be popular with fans of whatever club he plays for
“City followers love him, not just for his incredible work-rate but for his goals which look like firing the club into the Champions League next season.”
Hart has played his way into Fabio Capello’s thinking. Taylor said: “Joe’s loan move to Birmingham has proved a good one for both parties. He has benefited from the chance to play regular first-team football, and has not let manager Alex McLeish down.”
