After picking up a third consecutive Etihad Player of the Month award, David Silva has admitted he is surprised how quickly he has settled in Manchester.

Silva has become one of the Blues’ most important players during the first half of the season with the diminutive Spaniard winning a legion of admirers following a series of superb performances.

“I was very happy to win it once; to win it three times is very special,” said Silva. “The support that I’ve received from the fans has made me feel very happy to be here.

“I’m pleased to have adapted so quickly to the Premier League and I want to thank everybody involved here - the players, the club officials and especially the fans. They have all made me feel welcome and have made it very easy for me to settle in England.”

City have missed Silva’s creative influence since he limped off against Blackpool on New Year’s Day and the Spaniard had to watch the crucial clash with Arsenal from the stands, though he thought his team-mates defended well against the Gunners.

“To play Arsenal away at the Emirates is a very difficult game and a draw was a good result for the team,” he said.

The team played very well. You never know if I would have made the difference in a game like that, but the team did very well

Silva will know today if he’s fit enough to resume his play-maker role against Wolves this Saturday, but he’s hopeful of playing some part if there is no reaction.

“It was my first training session back with the team yesterday and I’ll know if I am fit to play after today’s training session. Hopefully, I’ll be better but if not then I’ll try and get fit for next week.

“I’m keen to play, obviously. Wolves beat us earlier in the season and we want to show that we are better than we were that day.

“We were winning 1-0 and had a number of chances to win the game, but unfortunately we lost. We hope to win the game like we would want to win any other game we’d go into.”

Silva is also looking forward to linking up with new signing Edin Dzeko, who he has only played against once so far – but was impressed, nonetheless.

“I don’t know much about Edin from his time in Germany, but I was lucky enough to play against him in an international game for Spain which we were fortunate to win 5-1.

“He is a great player who will score a lot of goals for our team.”
