City pair Henshall and Evans were on the bench in a rain-soaked Pachuca to cheer the dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over Argentina that propelled England into the last-eight duel.
Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford saved two spot kicks as his side edged through 4-3 after Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling equalised a soft Maxi Padilla opener to force the shoot-out decider.
Head coach John Peacock said: “I’m very proud of my team, we showed fantastic character for the penalties. We were composed and thoroughly deserved victory as the better side on the day.
“We were disappointed to go behind against the run of play, but we showed tremendous character to come back from behind. Max Clayton nearly snatched it, but we had to win the hard way.”
England now face Germany on Monday in Morelia for a place in the semi-finals, and Peacock said: “We always seem to play Germany at some point either in a European or world competition.
We lost to Germany four years ago at the same stage in Korea - hopefully we will get a different outcome this time around
“England and Germany games are always very close. Both teams are unbeaten at this World Cup, so something will have to give in the next game.
“They are always classics - there is always great rivalry between the two countries, but also great friendship as well.”
The tournament kicked off with 24 teams. The final will be in Mexico City on 10 July.
