The Oldham boss, who has cult status amongst Blues fans for his efforts in two stints at the club, is hanging up his boots at the age of 38. He will forever be remembered for his goal against Gillingham in the Wembley play-off final.He will make a farewell appearance as a substitute in the Latics’ final game of the season against MK Dons at Boundary Park.
“It will not be a happy day or a sad day but a no choice day,” laughed the Scot who is hoping to find time to watch the Blues take on Spurs on Tuesday night.
“I have been registered to play all season but for various reasons have not. Mainly because I didn’t want to put myself ahead of players who I am asking to bust a gut in training every day when I am not always able to put myself through the same rigours.
I am really enjoying my new role as a manager and I have some fantastic memories as a player not least the Wembley goal for City. I hope one of the current squad has such a memory after next Saturday.
