The 29-year-old was one of England’s stand-out players at this summer’s tournament where he scored his first international goal against France.
He has since been away with the family but he insists the batteries are now fully re-charged after playing the full 90 minutes of City’s pre-season friendly against Oldham, his first match since England’s Euro 2012 exit in late June.
“I had a little break, I got away with the family after the Euros and had a bit of down time,” he smiled.
“It’s nice to be back at Carrington and I’m eager to get back in.
“It was a slow start initially - they know not to kill us on the first day! But the season comes around pretty quick, so over the next fortnight we’ll have to get everything in.”
The defender, who has earned 19 caps for England, was disappointed not to reach the semi-finals of the Euro 2012, but feels he benefited greatly from playing on the international stage.
“The Euros was a great experience for me personally as it was my first tournament. Obviously it was disappointing that we couldn’t progress to the semi-finals, but it was a great experience,” he declared.
Looking ahead to a new season with City, Lescott says he knows it’s going to be tough, but is setting his sights high.
“We’re the team to beat at the minute with the title under our belts so it’s going to be exciting this year and hopefully we can achieve similar feats,” he said.
“I think being champions will put more pressure on us and I think the fans and the players will be keen to achieve the same goals this year.
“The pressure’s going to be there, we know that, but the excitement levels are also high, we’re just keen to get the season started.
“For now my main aim is to get fit as soon as possible and stay injury free.”
