The influencial City midfielder, speaking in his role as tourism ambassador at a promotional press call for his native Gran Canaria, eyes April’s Manchester derby clash against United as being pivotal in deciding the fate of the league title come May.
“If we get to that match on the same number of points then it could be decisive, but we have to get there first, we have to win every match,” he said.
“To win the Premier League would be an incredible thing to achieve with Manchester City, and for the people of Manchester after so many years. I also imagine the people of Gran Canaria will feel pride at having a player from their island win the Premier League for the first time, too”
No stranger to the relief felt following a barren spell, David explained how helping the Blues’ to their first domestic title since 1968 would hold as much significance to him as assisting Spain to their first World Cup triumph two years ago.
Having seen the City supporters waiting so long to win the league, it would be just as important as winning the World Cup.
Our World Cup win came after the European Championship victory so people were already happy. People forget the bad things in life when celebrating a win like that.”
