The Ivory Coast star’s double in the nail-biting 2-0 win at Newcastle leaves City as long odds-on for a first top flight title in 44 years and the joy was obvious for all to see after the contest.
“I think we are in a great position but we have to keep working hard,” declared Toure. “QPR are fighting for their lives and will not come to the Etihad Stadium to lose.
“But we have one more game to make history for this club and that is what I came here from Barcelona to achieve.
“I am very happy, it is the first time I have scored two goals in one game in my career. And it brings us closer to the cup. I am happy with my performance and the performance of the team.
“It is unbelievable for the fans, I have won some big trophies in my career but it is never easy to deliver the title after a long time. It is not over yet but we are happy. We are in good form, we are confident and we have an excellent group of players. Roberto Mancini took me to one side before the game and told me I would play a key part and hopefully that is what I did.

“The manager told me to deliver today because it was an important game. This is brilliant for us, though.
“We are finishing the season strongly but now we must rest and prepare for next Sunday.”
Defender Joleon Lescott, who helped shut out a Newcastle attack that had grabbed all the headlines in the lead up to the contest, was in similar determined mood to teammate Toure.
“The manager told us to have more belief at half-time and we knew that there have not been many games this season when we have not scored.
“The substitutions did make a difference Yaya is hard to stop when he is in that mood. All we ever wanted when we fell behind United was to go into the last game with the title in our hands and that is what we have now got.
“We had great support at Newcastle and I am sure there will be some atmosphere next Sunday.
“People were saying how hard this game would be for Manchester City but they forgot how hard it might be for Newcastle.
“We defended well as team just as we did against United on Monday. It was a tough old match but now we have put ourselves in the driving seat.
“We are not worrying or thinking about anyone else; we just know that we have to go out next week and beat QPR and if we do that then we will be champions.”
