Team news

City

Ilkay Gundogan and Nicolas Otamendi were both back in the City squad for City’s 6-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk and are fit for Sunday’s game.

Kevin De Bruyne is ruled out with ligament damage which he sustained in our Carabao Cup win over Fulham.

Goalkeeper Claudio Bravo is a long-term absentee, having sustained an Achilles tendon injury. The Chilean ‘keeper underwent scans, which confirmed a rupture in the tendon of his left foot.

United

Romelu Lukaku is a doubt for Sunday’s derby after picking up a muscle injury in training.

Antonio Valencia (minor surgery), Marouane Fellaini (groin) and Diogo Dalot (knock) are unlikely to feature.

The last time...

Back in April last season, City surrendered a two-goal half-time lead to lose 3-2 to United in a dramatic Manchester derby.

City’s goals from Vincent Kompany and Ilkay Gundogan were cancelled out by a Paul Pogba brace and a Chris Smalling strike.

Stats

  • Unbeaten leaders City are seeking a fourth successive Premier League triumph as we entertain local rivals Manchester United, who are looking for a third straight top-flight win.

  • City have not lost any of our last 53 Premier League matches against sides starting the day outside the top four (W44 D9 L0), since a 4-0 loss at Everton in January 2017.

  • Pep Guardiola has never lost consecutive home league matches against a single opponent in his managerial career.

  • The game will mark the 177th Manchester derby.

  • Our loss in the most recent Manchester derby was City’s last Premier League defeat at the Etihad. Since then, we have won eight of our nine games at home in the competition, including all six this season.

  • City have won more games, scored more goals, taken more shots and had more possession than any other side in their last nine Premier League home games.

  • We have also had 438 touches in the opposition box, again, more than any other side - that’s an average of 49 a game.

  • United have won four of the last eight meetings, while City have won only twice during the same period.

  • In the Premier League, only Wayne Rooney has scored more Manchester derby goals than Sergio Aguero’s seven.
