Sergio Aguero’s match-winning quality, the Blues’ ability to claim all three points with 10 men and a look at the arriving Gabriel Jesus all feature in Tuesday’s take of the back pages.
We begin with our Argentine maestro, who put in a man of the match performance from the bench against the Clarets.
There was pre-match talk aplenty when Aguero was named amongst the substitutes, but the Manchester Evening News’ Stuart Brennan believes his 45 minute showing proved why his name is assured of a place in the annals of City history.
He writes: “Sergio Aguero gave everyone a timely reminder of why he is a bona fide Manchester City legend by stepping off the bench to inspire the ten-man Blues to a much-needed win.
“On the day that new £27million signing Gabriel Jesus flew into town, Kun found himself on the subs’ bench, setting a million tongues wagging, yet again, about his City future.
“But when he came on at half time to reinvigorate a flagging Blues attack and put fear in the hearts and lead in the legs of the Clarets defenders, he gave everyone a reminder of his class.”
There’s yet more praise for our No.10 over at ESPN, where he earned himself the highest rating from David Mooney.
The journalist sites his appearance at half-time – along with David Silva – as the catalyst for the Blues to grind out a welcome win, the importance of which he believes should not be underestimated.
“City were forced to play the majority of the match with 10 men,” he reports.
“Despite that setback, the home side were able to rally well and, with the introduction of David Silva and Sergio Aguero at half-time, take full control of the game.”
Meanwhile, Sky Sports have been running the rule over a forward soon set to don the famous sky blue.
Following praise from legendary Brazilian strikers Pele and Romario, Nick Wright has given his view on what we can expect from Gabriel Jesus.
And it’s good news, Blues!
Describing the teenager as an exciting prospect, he writes: “Jesus is the kind of player who gets fans off their seats, with his blistering acceleration and natural flair making him a formidable proposition in one-on-ones.
“His trickery is likely to make him popular among Premier League viewers, and he also boasts predatory finishing ability, with a level of composure that defies his tender years.”
