First let’s hear from boss Pep Guardiola, who has given a widely reported interview about his thoughts for next season.
“We will be better, like Everton will be better,” Guardiola told Sky Sports.
“The teams every year do better than the year before - we’ll be better next season.”
Guardiola added: “I enjoy a lot [managing City], I said many times.
“Always when you win you are a god and it’s good but during the process, 11 months together, you can enjoy being with your staff and your players and imagining new games, new actions.
“But the opponents always play and play good, sometimes you can beat us but the beautiful thing is the process.”
Meanwhile, ESPN columnist Simon Curtis is getting excited about City’s prospects for the new season having watched Bernardo Silva play for Portugal against Russia in the Confederations Cup this week.
He writes: “It is only June and City have secured a new goalkeeper in Ederson Moraes and one of the brightest young global talents in Monaco midfielder Bernardo Silva.
“While Ederson holidays in Lisbon, his new teammate and fellow ex-Benfica player Silva underlined just what a stellar talent he is with a scintillating first display at the Confederations Cup for Portugal against Russia.
“His national team’s chosen colour may be red, but it is in sky blue that City fans will be looking forward to seeing Silva work next season. The appreciable difference he brought to a Portugal XI that had struggled in drawing 2-2 with Mexico in their first Confederations Cup game was a real eye-opener.
“Starting on the right side of midfield, the ex-Monaco man made an immediate impression with his immaculate ball control and deft passing with both feet. First of the midfielders to track back to help his defenders, Silva’s performance will have had Pep Guardiola purring in anticipation.”
What of the ‘White Wall Challenge’? Step forward our very own Gabriel Jesus, who has taken on a nomination skills challenge initially set by Barcelona’s Neymar.
Now for some nostalgia, and as part of their series on celebrating 25 years of the Premier League, the Daily Mirror have relived Sergio Aguero’s historic title winning moment through the eyes of commentator Martin Tyler.
“For Tyler, it seems inconceivable that he will ever top Aguero’s goal for pure, unfettered drama.
“He said: ‘I’ve been lucky enough to be commentating on the Premier League since our first live game and it was the most gripping climax to a season since Blackburn in 1995.’
“Tyler still gets asked to recycle his ‘Aguerooo’ moment. It is, of course, impossible to recreate hysteria to order.
“‘I’ve always joked I should have retired after that,’ admitted Tyler. ‘It’s not going to get any more dramatic than a 94th-minute winner on the last day of the Premier League’s 20th season, is it?
“‘As a commentator, there’s a level of excitement you only reach when exceptional moments come along, but as a sense of occasion that goal is in a class of its own.
“‘Even now, I get asked to repeat ‘Aguerooo!’ on a weekly basis, but it’s not the kind of soundbite you can procure on repeat prescription.
“‘The trigger for that level of excitement in a commentator’s voice is rooted in a passion for football and love of the moment.’”
