With the transfer window set to officially open in just over three weeks, speculation about potential summer deals is now in full swing. So, without further ado, here’s your daily roundup of Manchester City news from across the media world.

Let’s start with a report in the Mirror suggesting City face stiff competition from Liverpool for the signing of Virgil van Dijk.

The Southampton centre-back is reportedly on the radar of a host of top Club’s after impressing with the Saints since his move from Celtic in 2015.

Ian Doyle says it is City who are in pole position to land the Dutchman – but warns Liverpool are desperate to capture his signature and are prepared to battle City all the way in the race to sign him.

“Liverpool won’t give up on Virgil van Dijk - and are ready to match Manchester City’s offer for the defender,” Doyle writes.

“As the Sunday Mirror revealed, City are in pole position to land the Southampton skipper in a £60million deal.

“Liverpool face a real battle to convince the Dutchman to move to Anfield.”

Meanwhile, City remain favourites to sign Tottenham’s Kyle Walker, according to a report in the Star.

Jeremy Cross believes Walker will spurn offers from any other Club having already made his mind up to move to the Etihad Stadium this summer.  

Walker, 27, is thought to be one of Pep Guardiola’s chief transfer targets, with the City boss keen to wrap a deal up for the England international in the coming days.

“Starsport can reveal Etihad bosses are confident of completing a move for Walker once England’s games with Scotland and France have taken place,” Cross writes.

“Pep Guardiola made Walker one of his main targets six months ago and wants the deal done before the end of this month with signing a right-back a priority for the Spaniard.

“The England international, 27, moved to White Hart Lane from Sheffield United in 2009 for £9m and has gone on to become first choice for club and country.

“Walker, who has won 25 caps, is currently with Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions squad preparing for Saturday’s World Cup qualifier in Glasgow.

“He is a target of a number of clubs, but it is understood he has chosen to join City so he can be closer to his family, who still live in Sheffield.”
